After two weeks in Zimbabwe imagaine how excited we were at the prospect of some rampant consumerism once we crossed the border back into South Africa.

In Pretoria north we found a huge shopping mall... food on the shelves, drink in the drink shop, clothes in the clothes shops.

With credit cards poised we enetered, determined to spend. Big time.

No electricity, no tils; no electricity no card machines; no spending.

Ag no, man, Tony! Then again, think of all the lovely valuble rands you're saving har har. For some reason this reminds me of what people (white people, that is) used to say as they packed for Perth: Will the last person to leave the country please turn off the lights. Now that's what you call optimism.
